Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices has announced today that it has released two reports demonstrating its dedication in reducing its impact on the environment, thanks to the adoption of new production technologies and the implementation of energy conservation projects at all of the chip maker's major campuses. The two reports, the ninth annual Global Climate Protection Plan (GCPP) and the 2008 Corporate Responsibility Report, reflect the company's efforts to minimize its environmental impact.

“We are pleased with the progress we’ve achieved on environmental and social issues in the past year and excited to share the results with the public, our customers and technology partners,” said Dirk Meyer, AMD president and CEO. “AMD’s commitment to operating our business responsibly remains a top priority, and while we are pleased with our record, we’re focused on continuing to drive improvement.”

With the announcement, the chip maker has included a couple of highlights of the two documents. In the ninth annual GCPP, the company talks about Climate Protection Award it received in 2008 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as its achievement of meeting the EPA Climate Leaders’ goal of reducing 33 percent of the normalized emissions by the end of 2010. At this time, the chip maker has managed to reduce emission by approximately 20 percent, including a 13 percent reduction from 2007 to 2008. In addition, the launch of the new Phenom II X4 processors with Cool'n'Quiet 3.0 technology and the new 45nm manufacturing process are also among the highlights of the GCPP.

The 2008 corporate responsibility report highlights include the opening of the Austin, Texas-based “Lone Star” campus, which has achieved LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council early this year, as it is powered by 100 percent renewable energy.
