Component shortages seem to be plaguing everyone, both AMD and its OEMs

Some time ago, I noticed that AMD's Radeon R9 series of graphics cards was a lot more expensive than it was supposed to be, and the reason was said to be short supply.

That suggested that demand was a lot stronger than anyone expected. Now, though, it's said that the reason is different.

Where people once thought that cards were in short supply because sales were just that good, now it's been revealed that it's not really demand that is doing this.

Sure, the cards sell well enough, but the real issue is the shortage of components, according to SweClockers.

Major GPU manufacturers don't have enough ASICs (application-specific integrated circuit) and other components for the video boards.

VisionTek has even confirmed the problem in a recent post on Facebook.

What does this mean for us? That the cards won't return to their reasonable prices until this raw material and component shortage issue is resolved.
