Looks like the previously reported delay has been turned around

Either AMD is constantly reconsidering its product release plans for the Radeon HD 7950 or the rumor mill has been working overtime.

Not long ago, there was a report saying that AMD's second Tahiti card would only launch in February, after the original launch day was missed.

Now, Digitimes says that is no longer the case.

In fact, the launch date has apparently been moved up to January again, even if not the original date (January 9 already passed, after all).

The report says “late January” which probably means sometime after the twentieth.

Retailers should have already received healthy shipments of the video controller by the time AMD finally makes everything official.

The HD 7950 is based on the same 28nm manufacturing process as the HD 7970.

If the launch does happen this month, the board will have at least two months' head start over the NVIDIA Kepler (also 28nm, set for April).
