AMD seems to be getting ready for the launch of the Radeon HD 6670 graphics card as a German system builder has already started advertising such systems on their website, the new desktops arriving later this week, on February 3.

The system is called the Medion Akoya P5320D and is built around an AMD Vision platform that pairs an Athlon II quad-core processor together with the upcoming Radeon HD 6670 graphics card, prices starting at 499 Euros.

Based on the Turks GPU, the HD 6670 is destined to take the place of AMD's current Redwood based graphics cards in the entry-level market, and features some architectural improvements over its predecessor.

Its specifications were detailed recently, when a leaked screenshot made its way onto the Web together with a 3DMarks 06 benchmark run.

As a result, we now know that the GPU packs 480 shader processors, 16 ROPs, as well as 2GB of GDDR5 memory that is linked to the core via a 128-bit memory bus.

The clock speeds of the chip are set at 800MHz for the GPU and 2,000MHz for the memory.

When compared to the previous HD 5670, Turks comes equipped with 80 more streaming units, has double the number of ROPs and has a 25MHz higher core clock speed.

In addition, Turks also gets AMD's new UVD 3.0 media decoding engine that offers 3D video hardware acceleration as well as other new features.

Together with the Radeon HD 6670, AMD will also release the HD 6570 graphics card, which features pretty much the same specifications, except for the use of a DDR3 memory controller that allows for 2GB of video buffer and comes clocked at 900MHz.

The GPU operating frequency has also been decreased, as the core will run at 650MHz.

No other details are provided, but the appearance of the Medion system suggests we are not that far away from Turks' official debut. (via ComputerBase.de)
