Those of you that were afraid AMD's new dual core code-named Kuma processors would not be released should worry no more. Apparently, Advanced Micro has stepped forward with a statement that not only puts an end to the rumors, but also clearly establishes the yet-to-be released Kuma CPUs as not being part of the Phenom lineup.

As we mentioned to you yesterday, according to the HKEPC website, a couple of motherboard manufacturers were informed by Advanced Micro itself that the company would cancel its upcoming dual-core processors based on the K10-micro architecture. At that point, there was no apparent reason for said action, but speculations implied that it had something to do with AMD looking to lower the development costs amidst talk of the uncertain profitability of such chips. It has now become clear that these were only speculations, since AMD is on track with the release of the new dual-core processors based on the 65nm manufacturing process.

"The speculation is completely untrue," said AMD spokesman Jake Whitman. "We're still on track to launch a dual-core--code-named Kuma--part in the second half of '08. It will be 65 nanometers, still be based on the Star's core. So, that's coming." he said, to further eliminate all kind of doubts.

Mr. Whitman also wanted to point out that the new Kumas were in no way to be associated with the Phenom lineup, as has been speculated by the media in quite a large number of articles. "We have never said anywhere along the lines that Kuma was somehow associated with Phenom," he said. "Dual-core Phenom? I've never seen that on a road map." Although back when the Phenom line was launched, AMD did state that a dual-core variant could be possible, as of now the Phenoms come only in triple-core and quad-core versions.
