Intel isn't the only chip maker that will provide consumers with a new line of processors, as the Sunnyvale, California-based Advanced Micro Devices is also reported to be planning the release of a couple of new additions to its series of Phenom II and Athlon II CPUs. According to reports on the Internet, the world's second largest chip maker will be introducing four new CPUs, all of which will be based on the company's latest architecture.

In a recent post on Fudzilla, the chip maker is said to be planning the release of a new Phenom II X2 555 BE dual-core CPU, which will apparently be the company's fastest dual-core processor. The PII X2 555 BE will be an update, in terms of performance, to the company's 3.1GHz Phenom II X2 550 BE. In addition, AMD also plans to launch an update to the Athlon II X2 630, with the introduction of the 635 model. According to the report, the new processor should be clocked faster than the current Propus-based 640.

In addition, AMD is also looking to introduce a new, triple-core processor, part of the Athlon II series, with the release of the Athlon II X3 440 model. Unfortunately, there are no specific technical details about the new CPU, which is also the case of another rumored model, the dual-core 255. These two are expected to become part of the sub €100 market, with prices falling at around €70 and €50, according to available details.

AMD will also unveil its much anticipated new 800-series of chipsets, featuring a new IGP and said to deliver the fastest desktop IGP platform. Basically, if you are looking to build yourself a new desktop PC, AMD will have some of the things you'll require to run the latest applications and take advantage of an affordable, yet performance-capable system.
