For the mainstream market

Approximately three weeks from now, AMD's graphics subsidiary, ATI, is expected to unleash yet another Radeon graphics card to go against NVIDIA's GeForce lineup in the mainstream market segment. Unlike the Radeon HD 4350 and HD 4550, which were officially announced today, AMD's upcoming HD 4830 graphics card will deliver a considerably high performance level within an affordable price range.

There are only a few details to go on for the time being but, as it turns out, the new Radeon graphics card should hit on October 21. It will be part of the company's current Radeon 4800 lineup, and will be specifically designed to meet the performance requirements of today's mainstream users, which means it will probably deliver a generous performance in some of the latest gaming applications.

According to an article on VR-Zone, the forthcoming ATI Radeon HD 4830 will be meant to compete with NVIDIA's GeForce 9800GT, with a price tag that will be set below the $150 point. Also, this new card should unveil its full gaming potential in a CrossFire X setup.

The currently available specifications indicate that the HD 4830 will sport 640 stream processing units, 256-bit GDDR3 memory, and support for Microsoft's DirectX 10.1 API. In addition, it will also feature support for ATI's CrossFireX and Avivo HD video technologies. Unfortunately, no details on the card's clock speeds and memory have been disclosed so far, but that's because AIB partners are left with the choice of designing their own cards, thus setting the GPU and memory clock levels themselves.

AMD's upcoming Radeon 4830 could just end up by topping NVIDIA's 9800GT, which is basically a rebranded version of the older GeForce 8800GT. This would allow AMD to reclaim some of the mainstream market share it has lost to NVIDIA over the past few years.
