This is basically the second game that was made on the API

The Mantle driver may have been tragically delayed (“And I must scream” can become our anthem for today I suppose), but that doesn't mean AMD isn't (passively and ever so indirectly as it turns out) fanning the flames anyway.

I mentioned Star Swarm in the past, and how it was the second game that worked on the Mantle API, but I never actually brought the video of the demo to your attention.

Fortunately, there's a real-time showcase for what the engine it's based on can do (Nitrous Engine).

You'll see that two fleets controlled by the PC's artificial intelligence are fighting out a battle in space.

There are more than 10,000 units on screen, each working essentially independently, thanks to parallel processing.

Using DirectX instead of Mantle requires the shutting off of various effects, like motion blur. See the whole video for details.
