That's what some testers discovered anyway, but it might really be the game's fault

AMD's Mantle API (application programming interface), that ever so famous alternative to DirectX 11, has been getting a lot of attention, and building lots of hype, but not everything may be perfect in paradise.

So far, Mantle has proven that the performance in Battlefield 4 does go up by up to 45% compared to systems running it in DirectX (Direct3D).

But some players discovered an image quality difference when playing the game on Mantle. And it's not a good difference.

Basically, Mantle makes the graphics feel washed out, the sky a bit less blue, the far off mountains a bit greyer than they should be, etc.

Foreground shots, texture levels, and up-close details, at least, remain the same.

Basically, the color saturation is higher in Direct3D, making the game look a bit more vibrant.

It might all be a problem with the game itself though. Dice has already said that it's working on an update for the game, and maybe the patch will bring a post-processing tweak that will eliminate this quality gap.
