Advanced Micro Devices just can't wait to launch their new generation of dual and quad core central processing units, the Phenom class of processors, and for the gamers that are feeling a little bit depressed surrounded by so many new Intel processors, the manufacturing company just launched the Athlon64 X2 5000+ processing unit.

According to the news site fudzilla, this new Advanced Micro Devices central processing unit is based on the 65 nanometer fabrication process and it is available under the Black Edition label which means that it comes with a high overclocking potential while being available only in small and handpicked quantities. As this processor will be available for purchase most probably in a few days and because the Phenoms are due to come out in November, just like the new generation of Intel processors, this Black Edition Athlon64 may not have a very long life.

This new product is coming with an important feature that makes it valuable for overclockers and gamers alike, as it is unlocked and thanks to that fact it can be pushed much further than other processing units. As it also comes with a TDP rating of only 65 watts, it will not need a huge cooling solution when operating at its standard 2.6GHz frequency, but things may change once it is pushed further.

Apart from these features the new Athlon64 dual core processor is respecting pretty much the dual core desktop makeup of processors from AMD as it comes with two L2 caches of 512KB each and unlike most AMD modern day processing units it does not come with an included cooling solution in its package.

Right now there are a number of different ipieces of information concerning the processing cores of this new product as the news site nordichardware reports the presence of a Windsor architecture and the use of the 90nm fabrication process, while other sources point to the 65nm process.
