Advanced Micro Devices decided it was time to give prospective customers an incentive to buy its products, so it appealed to the interests of those most likely to put thought into what CPU to buy next.

People who like to play games, especially those who know their way around a computer, are the ones who are likely to spend any amount of time browsing.

Owning an AMD-based machine has just become a lot more convenient for those who use GameFly's video game rental and PC download services.

GameFly will cut a deal to anyone owning select AMD A-Series APUs (accelerated processing units) or CPUs from the AMD Ahtlon II, Phenom II and FX lines.

In addition to a free 30-day GameFly membership, a new PC game purchase will come with a 20% discount.

"GameFly is excited about its agreement with AMD because we've recently expanded into the PC gaming market with our robust new digital client," said Sean Spector, GameFly co-founder and SVP of business development and content.

"We strive to deliver the best consumer experience and we believe AMD's innovative technology and dedication to the PC gaming community amplify our mission as we continue to cater to our customers and enhance the value of our services."

AMD got some flack for its 8-core Bulldozer that turned out to have too low a performance for its transistor count, even after it was discovered that there were just 1.2 billion of them instead of 2 billion.

The chips revealed since then are actually pretty good, especially the APUs (accelerated processing units), which have mid-range graphics.

Llano didn't manage to score too many shipments, nothing groundbreaking anyway, but Trinity may finally be able to break whatever ice is left.

"AMD draws inspiration from gamers, game developers and the PC gaming industry," said John Taylor, director of global product and technology marketing at AMD. "Hand-in-hand with the AMD Gaming Evolved program, we continue to listen to gamers and fulfill our 'Gamers Come First!' pledge. AMD's close affiliation with GameFly shows our gratitude to gamers and to GameFly for recognizing how AMD represents best-in-class PC gaming experiences."
