The chief executive officer and the board of directors of Advanced Micro Devices have finally decided who would assume the position of chief marketing officer.

The new senior vice president and CMO is Colette LaForce, 39, a former member of Dell. She will report directly to President and CEO Rory Read.

Currently, LaForce is the global vice president and chief marketing officer of the Dell services business unit.

She will leave that post and assume her new position with AMD on May 14, 2012. She will be based in Austin, Texas.

“Colette brings strong technology marketing and brand-building experience, a fresh perspective and a results-oriented approach that will strengthen AMD’s global marketing organization,” Read said.

“Her deep expertise will accelerate the revitalization of the AMD brand, amplifying our voice in the marketplace while helping position the company for long-term growth.”

LaForce has a Bachelor of Arts and graduated with honors from the University of Notre Dame.

At Dell, she oversees integrated marketing, internal and external communications, sales enablement, alliances and demand.

Prior to her current post, she served with Dell as senior leader in multiple corporate marketing, global communications, product marketing and business unit marketing positions.

What's more, before even being hired by Dell, she spent almost a decade in communications and marketing leading roles at other companies, like Rackable Systems (SGI of today), Accenture, etc.

The new CMO has her work cut out for her. She will have to somehow make sure that all the new CPUs, APUs and GPUs get the attention they deserve. She will also have to help products score design wins. That means, among other things, that the number of laptops Trinity APUs land in from now on will be partially her doing.

As always, we'll keep an eye on AMD's camp. We doubt this is the last management change of the year.
