Quite a lot of people were saddened by the news that AMD was going to kill off the ATI brand, which it had purchased relatively recently, but it seems that things are not that simple, the red logo-ed Array Technologies Incorporated still making some surprise appearances, here and there.

So, as Fudzilla reports, it seems that several unusual part numbers (including a few still bearing the ATI name) have found their way into the ATI Catalyst PC VENDOR ID (1002) LIST, that is provided as an engineering resource and represents the list is of current shipping hardware supported by the current Catalyst Driver (if you're curious about the listing, you can check it for yourselves right here).

The new parts listed by AMD are the ATI Radeon HD 6230, ATI Radeon HD 6250, ATI Radeon HD 6290, ATI Radeon HD 6390, ATI Radeon HD 6510 and ATI Radeon HD 6750.

And yes, as you can plainly see, there's no one AMD Radeon in there, with the ATI brand name still reigning supreme.

Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing exactly what's the deal with these new products from AMD, so it's not clear whether in the case of the 6230, 6250, 6290 and 6390 we're talking about some re-branded Radeon HD 54x0 or 5500 series (after all, AMD's quite familiar with the whole re-branding procedure done of older/inferior models) or about new Zacate Fusion GPU, although the later possibility is a lot less likely.

The Radeon 6510 and 6750, on the other hand, are most likely rebrands based on the 5690 and HD 5700 series architectures.

Of course, we are as curious as you probably are as to why exactly AMD has kept some ATI part numbers around, especially since Advanced Micro Devices has been extremely serious about its rebranding activity, but it's quite likely that only time will tell what the chip manufacturer is actually up to.
