Every time a company or another gains an award of some sort, it is only natural that it would issue a press release as a means to celebrate, and AMD seems to have done just this sort of thing.

Each year, many trade shows are held, but so are conferences meant to establish which IT company excelled in certain areas.

The 'EMEA Channel Academy: 2011 Awards’ is one such event where hundreds of distributors from across Europe, Africa and the Middle East nominated their preferred vendors in ten different product categories.

This year, the Components Vendor of the Year position was secured by none other than Advanced Micro Devices, after the final vote on February 10, 2011 (the top five nominees were voted by about 800 senior channel executives).

“The five nominees for ‘EMEA Components Vendor of the Year’ were AMD, Asus, Gigabyte, Intel and WD. AMD picked up this year’s award with an impressive 46% of the live vote,” said Farouk Hemraj, CEO at DISTREE Events.

“I would like to congratulate all of this year’s vendor winners. Having the support of the distribution community is a vital part of a successful go-to-market strategy in the EMEA region.”

“We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award recognizing our complete dedication and commitment to the channel,” said Darren Grasby, corporate vice president, Sales, EMEA.

“The fact that AMD was the first vendor to bring DirectX 11-capable graphic cards to the market and the excellent price performance ratio of the AMD Phenom II processors were undoubtedly decisive factors for the readers to vote AMD Best Hardware Vendor 2010,” added Daniel Visarius, Senior Editor Hardware, GameStar.

What remains to be seen is how well the Sunnyvale, California-based company fares during 2011 and if it is enough to earn the same honors next year as well.

Of course, given the apparent scarcity of Fusion motherboards in retail channels, Advanced Micro Devices may just have its work cut out for it.
