The price assumes people want to buy it without an annual contract

Even though Intel Atom netbooks might be doomed, there are alternatives, like AMD's C50- dual-core APU which powers the laptop that AT&T has just unveiled.

The netbook now selling through AT&T is called Acer Aspire A0722 and is based on the 1GHz dual-core APU with Radeon HD 6250 graphics.

Measuring 11.6 inches (1,366 x 768 pixels), it also has 2GB of RAM, a hard disk drive of 320 GB and all the ports and plugs one can expect (VGA, Ethernet, three USB ports and HDMI).

Furthermore, a webcam is present, as is a six-cell battery for “extended battery life while on the go” (just how long it lasts was left vague).

The normal price of the newcomer is $449.99 (348 Euro), but an annual 4G HSPA+ data plan will lower it. For example, a two-year 3GB contract will bring it to $39.99 / 30.94 Euro.
