Chip manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices has just announced the anointment of ex-Dell veteran Ahmed Mahmoud as chief information officer. Mahmoud has worked for Dell for more than 13 years before joining the chip manufacturer's executive staff. According to the company officials, the new CIO will be reporting directly to AMD's chief executive officer, Hector Ruiz.

Mahmoud has an impressive resume, that includes 20 years of hard work at Dell, where he held miscellaneous transformational positions, such as vice president of global manufacturing fulfillment systems as well as online development director. Prior to Dell, Ahmed Mahmoud had worked for Eastman Kodak, the University of Houston, and Texas A&M University, where he held various IT leadership and instruction positions. Mahmoud holds a bachelor's and master's degree in physics from Texas A&M University.

Back at AMD, Mahmoud will take care of managing the company's global technology infrastructure. Dirk Meyer, AMD's president and COO claimed that he has been elected for the appointment because of his high-profile background in the IT industry.

"Ahmed's success using IT as a competitive differentiator to scale the business will help AMD tremendously as we expand our own infrastructure to best meet internal needs and better serve a growing customer base," said Dirk Meyer, AMD's president and COO, in a statement. "His considerable talent and experience help ensure that we continue building a world-class IT network based on our own products and platforms - some of the most advanced, energy-efficient solutions on the market."

AMD has lost some of its high-profile executives throughout the previous year, when the company was struggling with severe financial and technological issues. The appointment of Ahmed Mahmoud seems to state that the company is confident again to hire top-notch experts in its quest to return to profitability.
