It seems that today's news is all about AMD and that should make one wonder what the future of the computing industry holds. With all of the company's on-going projects, AMD is bound to make a serious impact through the release of its new product lineup.

This time around, we are talking about a possible PCIe 3.0 support for the future AMD-based motherboards. Apparently, the SB800 Southbridge is going to provide the world with PCIe 3.0 support. This means twice as much bandwidth and because there haven't been any rumors regarding a possible Intel project for the PCIe 3.0 support, AMD might just have something going for them. That is if they succeed in being the first to launch a chipset with support for the PCIe 3.0 standard.

But the on-going rumors, which we have already talked about, put the new SB800 chipset for a Q2 2009 launch. Also, AMD's chipset roadmap slides that have been posted on the ChileHardware forum have revealed that the SB8XX chipset comes with PCIe 5GHz x 4 support, which would imply that it is PCIe 3.0-ready. But because these are just rumors, we can only presume that AMD is really working on such a project.

For the moment, Advanced Micro has other things to worry about, especially with their CPU and graphics product lineup. As most of you know, AMD is expected to launch a Super RV770 graphics card, which is said to end NVIDIA's reign in the high-end graphics cards market. The same cannot be said about the company's upcoming Deneb and Deneb FX processors, which will have to compete with Intel's highly anticipated Nehalem architecture.

All one can expect is that the computing market is going to see some revolutionary new technologies being released at competitive prices.
