Also, rumors of a new AMD processor start

It seems that journalists attending this year's Computex show in Taipei have nothing better to do than to strip down every piece of new AMD product they stumble upon. After we saw pictures of a "naked" Radeon HD 4850, which hasn't yet been officially released, we now find a new AMD chip pictured stripped down of its cooling technology. This time, we are talking about AMD's soon-to-be-launched 790GX chipset.

I don't know how many of you like seeing pictures of a chip that isn't even available on the market. Some might even say that these pictures prove nothing of the chip's technical performance, as well as say nothing about the way a graphics card or motherboard will look like. However, what these pictures can prove is that all previous rumors about a chip or a technology that hasn't been officially launched are true, and that said products are going to surface on the market soon enough.

Still, despite all of the above, there are countless people who take pleasure in looking at a photo of AMD's 790GX overclocked IGP, which provides support for dual PCI-Express 2.0 x8 graphics slots with CrossFireX technology. And, while we are on that subject, let us not forget about the Southbridge SB750.

Both chips, 790GX and SB750, have been manufactured on the same technology as the 780G and SB700 chipsets, namely 55nm. The 55nm technology is also going to be used by NVIDIA's upcoming GTX 280 and GTX 260 graphics cards.

Apparently, the 790GX IGP is bigger than the 780G; the pictured model also has a local frame buffer, which comes in the form of a 128MB 64-bit GDDR3 memory.

The journalists who took the pictures also managed to find out that AMD is planning to roll out a new processor. Apparently, the release date for this CPU is going to coincide with the launch date for the pictured chipset.
