It’s very rare that you come across an artist who sounds as good live as they do on studio materials, but Lorde is the exact opposite of that: because of the intensity with which she performs each of her songs and the energy and passion she invests in them, she manages to sound even better live.

The young pop star was at the American Music Awards 2014 last night, which took place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles and aired live on ABC and TNT. Throughout the entire night, she kept close to good friend Taylor Swift, but she did leave her side when she went up on stage to perform.

As you probably heard, Lorde is the one who put together the entire OST for “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1,” the third installment in the series, now out in theaters worldwide.

She contributed to the score with original material, but she also got every other artist on it on board the project. You wouldn’t be wrong if you said the score of the latest “Hunger Games” movie is the Lorde’s score, because she was the master puppeteer in this case.

“Yellow Flicker Beat” is the theme song for the movie, performed by Lorde. She released it a few weeks back, saving the release of the official video for her 18th birthday.

Elizabeth Banks introduced Lorde on stage last night, for what was the first time she performed live the film’s theme song. And Lorde made the occasion truly memorable.

My favorite part about Lorde is that, unlike most pop performers of today, she doesn’t need elaborate and expensive setups to deliver a flawless performance. She doesn’t even need a backup dancing troupe, because she can steal the scene by just being herself and allowing herself to be carried away in the moment, by the music.

Another great thing about this performance was Taylor’s reaction to it. She’s always the go-to celebrity for producers of any awards show because she’s not the type that sits in her chair and not move at all. With her BFF on stage, Taylor lived in the moment too.
