Late last week, word got out online that ABC producers, presumably the same ones who had invited Jennifer Lopez and Iggy Azalea to perform their collaboration “Booty” at the upcoming American Music Awards 2014, were terrified that they might put on too racy a performance for a more conservative audience, even after watershed.
Admittedly, the duo were presented with a list of rules and don’ts, and they were instructed to follow them to the letter, or else.
You can see their performance in the video below: though there was considerably less gyrating and grinding than in the original music video, which is definitely JLo’s raciest to date, there was still a lot of twerking and booty poppin’. As expected.
The song they performed was actually a remix and ended with Jennifer dancing like crazy with a troupe of all-male backup dancers. I can’t really get behind this song because I find it too “loud” for my taste, but I’d have to say that JLo deserves a round of applause for the hard work she puts in.
You might not remember how much she was mocked online a while ago, when she announced she was making a music comeback and everyone thought it’d be funny if they pointed out to her that her relevance had died with the ‘90s.
Today, she isn’t just one of the most successful female entertainers in the world but she has actually managed to position herself as a direct rival to younger performers like Rihanna, Beyonce and Katy Perry. Yes, she did that mostly by showing that twerking doesn’t come with an age limitation.
Whether that’s something she should be proud of or not, you be the judge.
