Lady Gaga and R. Kelly performed their latest single “Do What U Want” at the 2013 American Music Awards, airing live on ABC from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, and they made sure they got everyone talking about it.

You can see a video of the performance above in full and in HD.

Though it definitely started on a very sensual note, with Gaga / Marilyn calling her secret lover President Robert Kelly to arrange a date, towards the end, it became something more, Gaga’s own manifesto, in which she addressed her critics.

Sitting on top of a piano as images of her as a kid played on the screen behind her, Gaga told her haters off by singing to them that they could say and do what they wanted with her body because they would never have her mind or her heart.

She also addressed recent media criticism about her fans and her weight, by having newspaper headlines appear on the screen, while showcasing her powerhouse vocals.

All in all, it was an impressive performance, meant to get people’s attention – which is managed to do brilliantly.
