14 DAY TRIAL // Miley Cyrus can rock like no other – but she can also sing her heart out, which is precisely what she set out to prove at this year’s American Music Awards with her performance of the ballad “Forgiveness and Love.”
Dressed in a floor-long black dress with long sleeves, and barefoot, Miley toned down a string of recent performances that got her plenty of criticism: and sang instead a ballad off the “Can’t Be Tamed” album, MTV News informs.
The camera focused on the singer, surrounded by a live band and plenty of burning candles, as she built up momentum for her song. Though Miley delivered a very good performance, questions about it are still making the rounds.
Word got out in the US media that Miley was initially scheduled to perform “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” but that she changed her mind in the 13th hour because she had learned of rumors of a supposed affair her mom Tish was having with Bret Michaels.
So, to avoid all this (the song was made famous by Michaels’ rock band Poison), she announced producers of the AMAs she would be performing something else instead.
“Maybe it was Miley Cyrus’ take on her parents’ recently announced split or perhaps it was just a breather from her recent spate of provocative awards-show numbers,” MTV says, venturing some guesses about the mellow performance.
“The singer slowed things down with her mid-tempo balled ‘Forgiveness and Love’ at the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 21). In a demure, long-sleeve black dress, the teen sensation belted out the track on a candlelit stage,” the publication further writes.
“After the song ended, cameras caught the singer’s mom, (Michaels has denied the rumors) Tish, smiling and clapping from her seat in the audience,” MTV also writes.
Even if it wasn’t the song she may have liked to perform, reaction to “Forgiveness and Love” was astounding. As commenters point out online, Miley is versatile and doesn’t deserve to have so much attention focused on her clothes, when she’s so talented.
