AMAX, a company specialized in developing high performance computing (HPC) solutions just announced that it plans to showcase its latest series of Big Data storage solutions at the upcoming SEG 2011 conference.

The Bid Data range of high-availability storage solution is comprised of two product series, the AMAX StorMax-X2 iSCSI clustered storage and StorMax-X3 Scale-Out NAS storage.

Despite the different roles they are designed to cover, both solutions are powered by Intel's Xeon 5600-series processors, and can include PCI Express Flash SSDs for accelerating I/O and high-density SAS/SATA spindle HDDs for massive storage.

These are paired with 80+ certified high-efficiency power supplies, for increased power efficiency, as well as with InfiniBand and fiber channel interconnects to accompany the standard 10GbE networking.

As far as storage space is concerned, the StorMax-X2 can provide up to 144TB of hot swap capacity and 20TB of fast NAND Flash memory cache, all fitted inside a 42U rack cabinet.

Its older brother, the StorMax-X3 NAS is capable of providing up to 1.8PB storage with ten Ultra-Dense 4U units that can take a maximum of 60 3.5-inch hot swappable hard drives.

Both AMAX storage solutions support 6Gbps SAS as well as SATA drives and are available with a wide series of SAS and RAID controllers.

"With the appropriate equipment and the right partner, companies in the Oil & Gas industry can improve efficiency and ROI across many application areas and gain a competitive advantage," said James Huang, Product Marketing manager at AMAX.

"Our experience with integrating Nvidia Tesla GPUs and Big Data storage technologies into our HPC product families ensure that our customers are continuously deploying the most advanced solutions designed to minimize complex seismic processing cycle times and increase job throughput," concluded the company's rep.

No details regarding pricing were provided, but SEG 2011 is scheduled to take place September 18th through 21st at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas.
