Should prove useful in a great many industrial applications

AIS is here to offer followers of the mass media something to look at besides the myriad of consumer products constantly streaming forth, namely a pair of interface touch panels.

If anything can be said about touchscreens, it is that they have enabled a far higher level of interactivity between man and machine.

This is very convenient for mobile and entertainment devices, obviously, but the usefulness extends much farther than that.

AIS is eager to show just how much farther, having developed a couple of operator interfaces for automation applications, packaging and other sectors of the industry.

Essentially, they are 12.1-inch and 15-inch interface touch panels-using systems powered by an Intel Atom processor, whose clock speed is 1.6 GHz.

Said CPU is accompanied by two USB 2.0 ports, the serial interface (isolated 2 x RS232 and 2 x RS485), a pair of Gigabit Ethernet ports and, naturally, the touch panel.

All in all, it should be easy to pack inside processing machines and the like, while the wide voltage range of 9-33V gives it a wide compatibility.

It should be noted, however, that the actual power consumption is quite low, for both the 12.1-inch and 15-inch panels.

As for actually running the thing, AIS (American Industrial Systems Inc.) chose Microsoft's Windows operating system (OS), specifically Windows Embedded Standard/XP Pro/7.

Other specifications and features include fanless construction, 1 GB DDR2, 160 GB storage space and various certifications (IP65 Rated, CE and FCC certified, and RoHS compliant).

The lack of fans helps with durability, in addition to minimizing how many watts it takes to keep the things operational.

AIS has already set up the product pages for the two newcomers. The 12.1-inch creature (800 x 600 resolution) is found here, while its larger sibling (1024x768 pixels) is described in detail on this particular web location.
