Arcen Games has announced that AI War: Fleet Command has reached the much-anticipated version 2.0, which brings a host of improvements to the gameplay and marks the release of the title on the Steam and Direct 2 Drive digital distribution services. Until now, the game could only be picked up from Impulse and from GamersGate. The Steam version of AI War: Fleet Command 2.0 offers online scoreboards, one of the most requested features, allowing players to track the performance of the community in real time.

AI War: Fleet Command is based on fighting huge fleets controlled by the AI while trying to find the two home planets of the enemy and take them out. The game is very tough, with the players needing to plan their advance through the galaxy in a very detailed fashion, as every new system that is conquered makes the enemy waves that come after their home systems even tougher. Throw in a wide array of ship types, each of them with specific advantages and weak points, and we get a rather complex, little game, which can keep a player interested in strategy occupied for hours on end.

The 2.0 version includes 129 Achievements, which are available to all players, more control options for their ships, increasing tactical options in the middle of fights, better visual effects like damaged ship indicators and smoke trails and a host of bug fixes and balance tweaks that use about 46,000 words to fully detail, which means that they are impossible to be mentioned here.

Arcen says that AI War copies that have been purchased until now can be activated on Steam to get access to the leaderboards and to the Achievements and that it plans more special offers related to the game and more support in the future, with monthly downloadable content, which will include new ships and new behavior for the Artificial Intelligence in the game.
