It can also transfer data very quickly, thanks to USB 3.0

All IT players need an edge from time to time, whether it be a world record in overclocking or a particularly fancy feature on a consumer electronic device. ADATA is taking its turn.

The product released by the company is a portable hard disk drive. This isn't nearly enough to make it stand out of course, since portable HDDs are more than common nowadays.

The presence of the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface standard is, likewise, mainstream at this point.

That leaves design as the only possible asset of the product, and ADATA doesn't disappoint. The newcomer, called DashDrive Elite HE720, is only 8.9 mm thick. That's 0.35 inches and, according to the firm, the thinnest among HDDs overall.

On that note, the 2.5-inch unit is quite light as well, at 164 grams / 0.36 pounds.

And here is where prospective buyers will wonder about the catch, since there is always a catch when something sounds good.

Physical vulnerability would even things out perfectly, but that doesn't apply here. The price actually comes closest to be considered a disadvantage, since $89.99 / 70-89.99 Euro isn't quite what we'd expect a 500 GB drive to cost.

Nevertheless, ADATA's creation offers more than enough bang for the buck, down to a stainless steel case that easily resists scratches, staying fine and shiny even long after purchase.

Not only that, but ADATA tossed in a blue LED indicator that, as such things do, glows when data is being transferred to or from it.

ADATA's DashDrive Elite HE720 ships with a USB 3.0 cable and is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linus operating systems, meaning most personal computers, even if they lack USB 3.0. USB 2.0 is easily found on nearly every consumer electronic device nowadays, PCs included, so while the data rate will be limited, transfers will be perfectly possible.
