ADATA has just announced that it started shipping its first solid state drives using a native SATA 6Gbps design, the S511, which are targeting users who require blazing storage performance and are powered by a second-generation SandForce SF-2000 controller.

The drives use the 2.5-inch form factor and are available in four different versions ranging from 60 to 480 GB in capacity.

The performance of the SSDs varies according to the number of channels that are populated with NAND Flash memory and, according to the Taiwanese company, the fastest drives are able to achieve read and write speeds of up to 550 MB/s and 520 MB/s, respectively.

The 4K random write performance is rated at 60,000 IOPS (input/output operations per second), but ADATA doesn't say if this is capped by the SandForce controller (the cap becomes active after 15 seconds).

“ADATA does comprehensive testing and review before bringing products to market, to ensure that our customers enjoy a worry-free experience for their systems and data,” said YJ Choi, senior vice president at ADATA.

“We are confident that the S511 will provide dependable performance at industry-leading transfer speeds,” concluded the company's rep.

Solid state drives powered by the consumer version of SF-2000 controllers have suffered from all sort of reliability issues lately, as both Corsair and OCZ had such problems.

However, ADATA seems to be confident in their S511-series SSDs as the company states these were the subject of extensive internal testing and all hardware and firmware elements worked flawlessly.

ADATA S511 solid state drives are available for pre-order in Europe and the 60GB and 120GB models are priced at €124.90 and €214.90, respectively. The larger 240GB and 480GB units retail for €454 and €1,193.
