There are many portable storage devices nowadays, but there are some situations where it is just too dangerous to have a “normal” one around.

And by dangerous, we mean hazardous for the item itself, not the owner's health, although the environments that threaten regular flash drives, HDDs or SSDs usually pose some risks to humankind as well.

At any rate, we are here to talk about a series of portable hard disk drive units that will survive harsh treatment easily.

Dubbed DashDrive Durable HD710, the portable HDD line was made by ADATA technology.

Three in number, the drives have military-grade shockproof and waterproof protection, rating IPX7.

In other words, the storage devices can survive underwater immersion for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter.

The housing of the HDDs is largely responsible for all this, being made of a silicone-based material.

Of course, it would not make much sense for ADATA to waste these design advantages on just any random storage device.

Sure enough, the performance of the DashDrive Durable HD710 is more than decent, enabled by the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard.

Furthermore, a wraparound exterior slot in the drive casing keeps the cable tucked in nice and tight during travels.

As for the actual capacities, prospective buyers will get to select between 500 GB, 750 GB and 1 TB. In that order, the prices are of $94.99, $109.00 and $129.99.

According to exchange rates, those sums translate into 72.19 Euro, 83.59 Euro and 99 Euro, respectively. Of course, if ADATA ever manages to ship the product to Europe, the tags will probably be somewhat higher, but you never know.

For those who want to learn more before starting the tour of their local stores and retailers, the product page is available for perusal right here. Windows XP, Vista, 7 / Mac OS X 10.6 or later / Linux Kernel 2.6 or later are supported.
