Called HC603, it has a metal surface with an etched pattern

Portable hard disk drives aren't all that amazing these days, simply because there are so many of them that there isn't much room for shocking developments anymore. That didn't stop ADATA from offering some refinements though.

The company has introduced the HC630, which would be a common enough portable storage unit if not for its case.

To make it stand out, and knowing that performance and capacity have already been stretched to the limit in this field, ADATA chose an unusual design.

First off, the case has smooth corners and a shiny surface, thanks to the fact that it's made with a metallic finish.

It is colored a one shade deeper blue than normal sky blue, and has an etched pattern, with diamonds cut in half at the center. Glimmering triangles in the sun.

The color won't exactly fit normal clothing styles, but that's not really all that important. It's not like this is a clothing accessory.

We don't doubt that plenty of people will find it appealing after seeing so many drab black, white and gray drives on sale.

There's even a raised lip around the edges (protects the surface from scratching when placed on a flat surface) and an LED indicator that shows transfer status.

As for the specs, the drive measures 115 x 78 x 15 mm / 4.5 x 3.0 x 0.6 inches (2.5-inch form factor), works at 5°C (41°F) to 50°C (121°F) temperatures and a capacity of 500, 750 GB or 1 TB. If the HDDtoGo software is downloaded (free from ADATA), the storage unit even gains encryption and synchronization functions.

Unfortunately, ADATA didn't release the price of this 160-grams / 5.6-ounce DashDrive HC630 portable HDD. Too bad really, since if it could confirm a decent price, it would have had its prospective customer base in the bag.
