A new qualified reference design has just been developed by LSI Logic and Micronas, the LSI DMN-8833, and promises to change the US-standard ATSC IDTVs (Integrated Digital Television) by delivering a revolutionary way to benefit from interactive digital TV, reported Electronics Weekly.

More exactly, the LSI DMN-8833 is able to decode SD (standard definition) and HD (high definition) content (up to 1080i, the highest resolution available on the market), but also audio in compliance with Dolby Digital CE and MPEG-1 layer 2 specifications, according to all the conditions issued by the ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee). The reference design has been developed around the LSI DoMiNo DMN-8833 ATSC decoder processor, Micronas DRX-H ATSC/QAM demodulator and the Micronas VCT- P flat-panel TV processor.

"We selected the LSI DMN-8833 for the ATSC reference design to ensure industry-leading HD MPEG-2 decode quality and expertise that complements our very strong LCD-TV market position with VCT-P," said Wladimir Punt, director of marketing TV at Micronas, cited by Electronics Weekly.

On the other hand, the latest reports regarding the specialized LCD TV market, made public by WitsView Technology, show that the demand for the LCD TVs will grow in the next months, and also the prices, especially for the 17-inch LCD panels, will increase by 19 % in the second half of the year to $123 from $102 in July.

"Users may have become accustomed to rapid price declines such as the ones the market has seen most of this year. Between April and June, for example, the price of large-sized LCD panels used in LCD TVs fell by over a fourth, compared to the first three months of the year," said WitsView cited by IDG News Service.
