It seems that the new trend in the technology world seems to be set by mobile TV, as several chip manufacturers, starring also Intel, are determined to conquer this market segment, according to Electronics Weekly.

The web-site writes that Intel announced its intention of delivering silicon for mobile TV, while being also interested in the multi-band, multi-standard receiver chipsets developed by Siano Mobile Silicon.

"We view (mobile digital TV) as one of the next killer applications for mobile devices," said Barry Evans, general manager of Intel's applications processor business unit.

It is said that Siano's chipsets would be perfect for every market, from Asia to U.S. and Europe, as they are able to support DVB-H, DVB-T, DAB, Enhanced Packet Mode DAB (IP-DAB) and T-DMB mobile digital standards.

Moreover, Siano's SMS1000 tuner chipsets, developed to be integrated next year into several handsets, seem to be already in production.

As the leader in mobile silicon - Qualcomm - has already announced it intends to provide support mobile TV by developing multi-standard chipsets, Intel representatives' statements come as a counter attack.

Qualcomm's chipset supports its own FLO platform, as well as DVB-H and ISDB-T standard used in Japan.

It seems that this new trend will engage numerous specialized manufacturers, as, just last week, Analog Devices took over a South Korean company, which produces DMB and ISDB-T mobile TV chips, at a cost of $127m.
