It seems that Sony plans to proscribe the resale of PlayStation 3 games and this decision has created 'a total war' in the gamers' world, as well as in the gaming industry, according to games website Ferrago.

The strategy implies that when the consumer purchases the game, he/she will benefit from an exclusive license, meaning that every game has a license and the beneficiary doesn't own the game, even if he has paid for it. As a result, the consumer has only a license to play the game and others can not buy second-hand games. More precisely, Sony is the sole proprietor of every piece of software.

The manufacturer would benefit from this marketing strategy, as it is expected to boom the prices up to the sky. However, this is a double bladed strategy, as the gamers will no longer purchase the same amount of games and the gaming industry leaders could declare war because of such an inconsiderate behavior.

Games website Ferrago added that it could be "impossible for those who cannot afford full-price games to invest in the PlayStation 3".

Sony representatives refused to comment upon these rumors, saying that: "We have made all of the official announcements at E3. We will be announcing more news running up to PlayStation 3's launch." It is also rumored that the company has already warned the British retailers not to put on sale second-hand games.

Moreover, it is said that Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., PlayStation game consoles manufacturer, could lower the performances of its upcoming console in order to meet production volume targets, informed X-bit Labs yesterday.

Consequently, if Sony will decrease the performance of the given functions, PlayStation 3 may also lower the graphics and physics quality of the games developed especially for Sony's device.

It seems that another 'off the record information' was published by Kotaku web-site. Therefore, Sony is said to decrease the clock-speed of the Cell processor in the console to 2.80GHz (down from 3.50GHz expected initially) and could also use in the end an external power supply of 400W, indicating, according to X-bit Labs, that there isn't much space inside the console.
