Rumors that Warner Bros and the Wachowskis are pushing for a re-edit are running rife

Despite its being only a rumor, there is good evidence that the famous “Matrix” trilogy is going to have at least one sequel in the works by the end of the year, written and produced by its original creators, the Wachowski siblings.

Latino-review has the scoop and bases its claims on some insider information from the studio that there are plans in motion to start work on a continuation of the sci-fi trilogy. The reason, so far, seems to be financial, something which may not bode well for the franchise in the end.

Warner Bros are said to be desperately looking for a solid title to help them in the box office war with competitors such as “Star Wars” and “Avatar,” who usually make a killing in cinemas.

But that doesn't mean that they're looking in the right places. Apart from the “Matrix” movies, the Wachowskis haven't exactly delivered hits. Their movies “Speed Racer” and “Cloud Atlas” have tanked and there's not much hope for their upcoming “Jupiter Ascending.”

All that aside, the faithful sources report that the Wachowskis have already started writing the next Matrix movie and gave some rough outlines to the studio for initial review. At this point, it's not clear if they themselves will climb into the director's chair.

The rumors are saying that the next movie's script is going to explore the birth of the Matrix, something that might have greater impact with moviegoers who flocked to see the first part of the trilogy but weren't as impressed with the two following parts.

In fact, although the trilogy enjoys a massive fan base and cult following, the general consensus is that part two and three inferior in terms of narrative and cinematic execution to the original.
