The man has so far walked about 9,000 kilometers (5,560 miles), has another 6,000 kilometers (3,730 miles) to go

Quite a while ago, a 47-year-old man named Scott Loxley decided to have some fun walking across Australia. The man has been putting one foot in front of the other for several months now and says that he will only stop when covering 15,000 kilometers (9,320 miles).

Truth be told, plenty of other people have gone on freakishly long walks before. The reason Scott Loxley's story is now making headlines is that this man isn't just walking across Australia. No Sir, this guy is walking across Australia while wearing a Stormtrooper costume.

A seriously bizarre journey

The 47-year-old man is said to have embarked on this journey over a year ago. More precisely, it was on November 2, 2013, that his quest began. The man has since walked over a distance of about 9,000 kilometers (about 5,560 miles).

For those who aren't in the mood to do any kind of math today, this means that he has another 6,000 kilometers (roughly 3,730 miles) to go before finally reaching his goal. Given how long it took him to complete the first part of his quest, the man should stop walking a few months from now.

As detailed by Oddity Central, Scott Loxley is not accompanied by anybody on this oddly long walk of his. On the contrary, the 47-year-old man only has himself to rely on. Needless to say, he very much misses being around people.

“I’m so sick of my company. I now understand why people do this with a support crew. Just for the interaction,” Scott Loxley told the press in a recent interview. “Some days you wake up and don’t want to get up, and you think why am I doing this?” he added.

So, why is he doing this?

Let's face it, walking around in a Stormtrooper costume and having to eat roast lizards because you don't have any other options is nobody's idea of a good time. Mind you, 47-year-old Scott Loxley isn't doing it for fun either.

On the contrary, the man hopes that this stunt will help him raise as much as AUD 100,000 (nearly $87,500 / €70,000) for the new Monash Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, which is set to open sometime in 2016.

“As a father, if one of my children were hospitalized, I would want them to be cared for by the best staff that have access to the best equipment,” the 47-year-old man explained his decision to try and raise money by walking across Australia.

“No matter how tough things get on the road, I know that there are kids battling just to get through the day and doing it with a smile on their face,” Scott Loxley went on to say.

In case anyone was wondering, the man opted for a Stormtrooper costume not because he found its design very flattering, but because he belongs to a volunteering group whose members wear Star Wars costumes to show their support for various children’s charities. The group is dubbed 501st Legion.
