Season 3 of Star Trek: The Original Series becomes available on Blu-ray in December. But that’s not all that this release will bring to Star War fans. For those who also enjoy a good online raid in some futuristic dungeon, the box offers a limited edition extra bonus. The box set will contain a unique code made to be put to use in the Star Trek Online MMORPG and which will feature a special Admiral uniform for your character to show off, but there is no specific for it. Whether it will be a simple garment or it will provide special bonuses for the characters remains to be seen.

"For a limited time, sets will include an exclusive free offering in Atari's Star Trek on-line game. Each set will include an insert that includes a unique code that will allow game players to outfit their avatar in an exclusive Admiral's outfit available only with this offer." This being said, the limited edition had better be seriously limited. Most people that will buy the Blu-ray will do so for Season 3 itself and will most likely never have any interaction with the MMO. Still, if your house is decorated in Star Trek collectables and you salute people with “Live well and prosper” this is definitely something you want.

Star Trek Online was initially developed by Perpetual Entertainment from 2004 to 2008, but the proceeds ended when the company went bankrupt in January 2008. The license to develop the game and all other things tied to STO were passed on to Cryptic Studios, which kept the code and game engine. A perfectly wise decision, since four years of work shouldn't be thrown to waste, especially since game development by the original company didn't end due to unsatisfactory results.

The game will take place 30 years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis and will be the first massively multiplayer online role-playing game to carry the Star Trek title. The game has a set release date of March 31, 2010 as stated in Atari, Cryptic Studio's parent company, annual earnings report.
