Solid State Drives have become increasingly present in the market for computer storage solutions, as these Flash-based solutions can now deliver new levels of performance, better power consumption and all for a more affordable price tag. On that note, the world's leading vendors of Flash-based storage solutions are continuing to update their portfolios with new products that deliver enhanced performance. Such is the case with the new S596, which has recently been announced by A-DATA as a new solution designed specifically for PC enthusiasts and gaming users.

Touted as the “industry's fastest SSD,” the new S596 storage solution is designed as a 2.5-inch SATA II drive, which can be fitted in both notebook and desktop computer systems, with the latter requiring a 3.5-inch enclosure or mounting kit. Performance wise, you are looking at a product that is said to be capable of delivering a maximum sequential read and write speed of 250 MB/s and 180 MB/s, a noticeable boost over the performance delivered by traditional hard drives.

According to its manufacturer, the S596 is designed to take advantage of the features enabled by the next generation of Flash technology and DDR2 SDRAM cache buffer, which reportedly delivers boot times of 20 seconds on systems that are running on Microsoft's next-generation Windows 7 operating system. In addition to that, the drive also comes with a mini USB port, according to the company, which further expands its usability as an external storage solution.

The A-DATA S596 will be available in a range of capacities, including 64, 128 and 256GB, providing the end-user with a choice for boosting its system's storage performance and capacity. Unfortunately, no details on the drive's pricing and availability have been announced yet.
