As of yesterday, Microsoft has made available a total of 12 security bulletins. The Microsoft February 2007 security updates address a number of 20 vulnerabilities across a suite of products. The Redmond Company did not repeat the January patch history and this month, the releases coincide with those announced via the monthly Security Bulletin Advanced Notifications.

Tami Gallupe, a Manager with the Microsoft Security Response Center Blog, revealed that out of the 12 security bulletins, half have received a maximum severity rating of Critical, while the remaining six have been cataloged as Important.

The six Critical security bulletins from the February release are designed to impact issues across Windows, Office, Data Access Components, Internet Explorer and the Redmond Company's security solutions. Microsoft provided a resolve for the privately reported HTML Help ActiveX Control vulnerability in Windows and the Windows MDAC ActiveX vulnerability residing in Data Access Components 2.5 and 2.8. Additionally, The Redmond juggernaut released patches for the Malware Protection Engine vulnerability for its security products and the cumulative security update for Internet Explorer.

But the indisputable start of the February Microsoft Security Bulletins is Office. No less than eight of the total volume of security updates tackle problems in Office, the maximum severity level of which is Critical.

The rest of the security bulletins patch six important vulnerabilities for Step-by-Step Interactive Training (one), Windows (three), Visual Studio (one) and Office (one).
