Comedienne Ellen DeGeneres married “Ally McBeal” actress Portia de Rossi in August 2008, after eight years of dating. As the two women are preparing to step out of the spotlight for a while, reports are starting to circulate that they are also planning to have their own family, with de Rossi about to start in vitro fertilization. They are aiming for a boy, reports have it.

“They would love a boy. But would truly be happy with any healthy baby. [de Rossi] is prepared to go through it (IVF) 10 times if she has to. Whatever it takes to get pregnant, she’ll do it. She’s been changing her eating habits. Her goal is to gain a few pounds before they start the IVF process. Ellen and Portia are mad about each other. And having a child together will only strengthen their bond.” an unnamed source tells Star magazine, as quoted by ContactMusic.

Both DeGeneres and de Rossi have often spoken about their intentions of having babies, but this is the first time that the issue of having a biological child surfaces. In an interview a while back, following Ellen’s statement that she would be stepping down from public life once her TV contract ends in 2010 for a time-out, de Rossi said it would be “selfish” of her if she did not adopt a child. “There are times when I think I’d be really selfish not to adopt a child. It’d be great to spend our lives with somebody, a little child that really needs a home.” Portia explained.

The rumor of the two ready to expand their family would fit just perfectly in the context in which Ellen has just given an interview to Ladies’ Home Journal, sharing there is no other more pleasant feeling than being with the one you love. For Ellen, happiness and beauty are intimately connected with her wife Portia and the way she makes her feel, she underlines, so it’s only understandable that the only thing missing in their lives right now is a baby, several media outlets are pointing out.

“You find the person you love, you think you’ve come this far… and anyway, I never thought I’d have a wedding, and I did, and it meant more than I imagined. As I’ve aged and matured, I just feel better about myself, more confident and more comfortable in my own skin. As that’s happened, I think I look better than I’ve ever looked, because that’s just what happens when you feel better about yourself.” Ellen revealed at the time about her grasp of the concept of beauty and happiness.
