It should have been a most guarded secret that Ubisoft clung to what half the internet was already aware of. The publisher announced today that an Xbox 360 version of its new Assassin's Creed franchise will launch alongside already expected PlayStation 3 build. To be released sometime in early 2007, launch date is yet to be confirmed along with platform specific content additions, if any.

1UP claims Assassin's Creed just screams out next generation: "Not only does the game look incredible, but its gameplay and all that it encompasses are things that just simply couldn't be achieved with current-generation hardware." It goes in par with the special technical abilities the new Playstation 3 has to offer, a boost of raw power that Xbox 360 is seemingly able to match. Assassin's Creed is designed to set the new standard in the action-adventure genre on both console and PC.

Developed by Ubisoft's Montreal studio, the game is set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was raging through the Holy Land up to its core. Feared for their effectiveness and the deep mystery that surrounds them, the Assassins intend to stop the ongoing conflict by suppressing both sides involved. Undoubtedly a grand plan, falling to the main character as players assume Altair's role. It's up to him if assassins will have the power to throw their cities into chaos and to shape the fate of the land in this decisive moment in history.
