Strategy First Inc. is announcing that it has entered into an agreement with Valve, the company that maintains the Steam digital distribution service, to offer the title 9th Company: The Roots of Terror for download. All gamers who are interested in a tough strategy title dealing with events in the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan can pick up the videogame for 20% off the official price if the order is placed before December 10.

9th Company: The Roots of Terror tells the story of a unit of the 345th Guards Airborne Regiment. The unit was attacked by a combined unit of Afghan and Pakistani fighters on “Hill 3234” on January 7, 1988, making a bloody two-day stand during which they repulsed every assault before retreating after covering that of a big portion of the Russian force in the country.

The game actually begins some time before that event as the player can control the soldiers of 9th Company as they complete their training and as they are deployed to the bloody battlegrounds of Afghanistan.

Emanuel Wall, who is the director of Strategy First, said that “9th Company: The Roots of Terror is an exciting title whose subject matter is relevant to millions of families today. We feel that this title will offer hundreds of hours of game play while at the same time reminding each of us the sacrifice that many men and women in uniform carry out on a daily basis.”

9th Company: The Roots of Terror is set to feature a non linear mission structure and a complex experience system allowing each character to be developed as the campaign progresses. There is also a two-level map and there are 80 different types of units simulated by the engine and that can be seen fighting in the 3D engine.
