Microsoft extends $99 Marketplace rebate for Windows Phone 7 applications submission

Windows Phone 7, the new mobile operating system from Microsoft, is enjoying an increasing number of app developers joining the community, as well as a fast growing Marketplace.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, Microsoft announced officially that there are over 20,000 developers registered for the Windows Phone Marketplace.

With more than 5,500 apps already included in the portal, it's obvious that the operating system is already taking off, and Microsoft is reportedly doing its best to make sure that mobile software becomes available for end users.

And if you're wondering what they are doing on this matter, you should know that one move would be offering developers a $99 rebate if they get two apps in the Marketplace before February 15th.

Developers who would joint the Windows Phone 7 community and start building software for the mobile platform would have the annual registration fee sent back to them, Microsoft states.

“Get $99 Marketplace Rebate. Rebate is valid for developers who publish 2+ apps into WP7 Marketplace, rebate will be sent within 4 weeks of publishing of second app. Limited time offer,” the software giant notes in a recent blog post (via WMPoweruser).

We should also note that Microsoft has put together all of the necessary tools for developers interested in building apps for the Windows Phone 7 OS. Planning, building, testing and publishing software for the OS is simpler than ever.

Most probably, this is the reason for which the number of developers registered for the Marketplace increased from 18,000 on December 21st, 2010, to over 20,000 today.

To make an idea of why this is impressive, we should note that the Windows Phone Marketplace had a number of 15,000 registered developers as of November 23rd, and that the number grew with over 5,000 in one month and a half.

Microsoft is more than content with the Windows Phone 7 platform, that's for sure. The company's CEO stated recently that, in their opinion, the platform is the most advanced mobile OS on the market today.
