A new tablet PC should arrive on shelves in Australia in the not-to-distant future, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest, pointing at an 8GB flavor of the Acer Iconia Tab A100 that should hit the shelves soon.

Apparently, this will be the only version of the tablet PC that will make an appearance on the local market, and those who might have been waiting for the 16GB Iconia Tab A10) to be released should simply forget about it.

Acer has reportedly confirmed both the release and the pricing of this device on the market in Australia, stating that the tablet PC will sport a price tag of $489 when made available, less than what was originally rumored for it.

For the time being, no specific info on whether the device will pack both WiFi and 3G connectivity capabilities or only one of them emerged, but the price seems to point at 3G capabilities as well (the WiFi model would go for $330 in the US).

For those out of the loop, we should note that the Acer Iconia Tab A100 comes to the market with a 7-inch 1024×600 (169ppi) capacitive display, and that it runs under Google's Android 3.2 Honeycomb operating system.

The new device is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core application processor, with each core clocked in at 1GHz.
