Video-sharing website Dailymotion, which continues to be one of the largest in the world after YouTube, got hacked recently and a report claims that no less than 85.2 million accounts were exposed.

Although the breach wasn’t publicly acknowledged by Dailymotion officials, ZDNet reports that it received evidence of a hack that possibly took place on October 20 when a hacker managed to extract more than 85 million usernames and email addresses.

Approximately 18.3 million accounts included in the leaks also had passwords, but they were hashed with Bcrypt, LeakedSource, who obtained the leaked data, reveals.

Details regarding the hacker behind the attack are not available just yet, but users are strongly recommended to change their passwords as soon as possible. Dailymotion is not yet notifying customers about the data breach, so without an official notification, millions of accounts could remain exposed.

Previous attacks

This isn’t the first time Dailymotion becomes the target of hackers across the world, as the video sharing website previously suffered a breach in mid-2014 when its domain was infected with malicious code redirecting users to exploits.

Hackers managed to inject malicious code in Dailymotion’s website through an iframe that redirected to other domains hosting exploit kits for Java, Internet Explorer, and Flash Player.

At that time, however, Dailymotion officials confirmed the attack, but explained that it wasn’t the only target of hackers and data of its users was not compromised.

“This attack has led to the shutdown of a very limited number of pages of dailymotion.com during a very short period of time. This malware attack has not been specifically targeting Dailymotion but has impacted a large number of publishers,” a company official said in 2014.

This time, however, Dailymotion remains entirely tight-lipped on the possible hack and the data leak, but we’ve reached out to the company and will update the article should an answer be provided.
