And seven gigabytes of hard disk space

Approximately one week after Microsoft (officially) announced the six versions of the Windows Vista operating system, The Inquirer comes with a piece of news that ruins the initial enthusiasm.

All users who have at home the Redmond company's operating systems know that Windows is a hungry memory eater. During the evolution of the OS, there have been many voices criticizing this bitter truth, which wreaks havoc on the consumer's pocket, but in the end, everybody complied.

Another universal truth is that 1GB of RAM memory is no longer an impossible and financially disastrous prospect, most users having the resources and the hardware platforms for this amount.

However, the announcement made by The Inquirer is shocking, the site claiming that Windows Vista swallows a baffling 800MB of memory, and that's only in idle mode, which means that no other applications runs on the computer.

The source supplying The Inquirer with this information used the internal beta version 2 of Windows 53xx also said that Vista works fine with 1GB, but that obviously 2GB would be even better.

Vista is not too shabby with hard drive space either, the new OS requiring almost 7GB for installation.

Given this information, it's no wonder that IBM will not make the switch to Vista and that it will soon drop the Windows operating system.
