This is the second 8 GB card that Sapphire has prepared to ram us with

8 GB is the highest VRAM capacity ever featured on a graphics card, and Sapphire is the one that made both examples, the Radeon R9 290X VAPOR-X and, now, the Sapphire R9 290X TOXIC.

Well, that's not perfectly accurate, because neither board is available yet.

But still, the company deserves a badge of recognition just for successfully embarking on this quest.

Sure, 8 GB is overkill, and twice the capacity used on the normal Radeon R9 290X, which is overpowered anyway. But still, it works as a means to acquire bragging rights.

We don't know the specifications of the R9 290X Toxic, since the folks at KitGuru couldn't get them, and it's a wonder they came upon photos of the card at all.

Only a handful of the cards will be made. A very limited edition as it were. Good thing too, because not many people are bound to want it, given what price it will no doubt have. And it's not like most people, high-end customers included, will even need the memory anyway.

The Sapphire R9 290X TOXIC will have a triple-fan cooler, a black and yellow-gold color theme, and a backplate (to cool the VRAM chips on the back side).
