The chips will be designed on 22nm technology and will come out soon

You'd think that phrases like 8-core, 22nm technology and SSE4 and AES instructions would point towards some new, super-awesome central processors, but in this case they are quite misleading.

That's right, “Avoton” isn't the name of a new, mega CPU series from Intel.

Instead, it is the codename of the next generation of entry-level Atom CPUs, which will arrive in Q3 2013.

The chips will have up to 8 cores, 4 MB of L2 cache memory, PCI Express 2.0 support, DDR3 memory controllers, all common interfaces, etc.

The out-of-order Silvermont architecture will ensure a much higher performance than before, while SSE4 and AES instructions secure the system.

The list is topped by various power management features. All in all, not bad for 22nm processors.

The CPU names are thus: C2350, C2530, C2550, C2730, and C2750. C stands for Avoton, while the digits in the middle determine supported features. "2" corresponds to 2013 generation, and the last digit "0" indicated micro-servers as the target segment.
