Seagate Technology announced that its top of the line DB35 HDDs will soon be integrated into DVR and digital entertainment devices. DynaPlay Technology from Seagate tries to solve many problems regarding the integration of HDDs into DVR solutions: power, video streaming performance, acoustics and reliability. Seagate's 750 GB storing capacity will slowly replace the current lineup of 250, 320, 400 and 500 GB and the new HDDs will provide room for up to 750 hours of standard TV quality content or 125 hours of HDTV, while allowing ten simultaneous standard TV streams. The extended capacity will also enable the adoption of video on demand, high-definition DVR mainstreaming and home media storage servers and services.

"Seagate is thrilled to be providing technology that is the basic enabler to products driving such intense levels of customer satisfaction. Access to more and higher quality digital entertainment content is exploding," said Rob Pait, director of Global Consumer Electronics Marketing at Seagate. "The ability to store high definition content will continue to be at the heart of enabling simple and satisfying digital entertainment systems." Seagate supports the development of mainstream DVRs and cites information from Kagan Research, placing Cable and Satellite DVR penetration for subscribers in the USA at 26%. The company also has a positive view on the evolution of DVRs taking into consideration accumulated information from Forrester Research: "...in seven years of consumer surveys at Forrester, we've never seen a device that engenders such strong, committed feelings as the DVR."
