Research company comScore published a new study concerning the online video market, saying that 3 out of 4 Americans accessed at least one video website in May 2007. According to the research, no less than 8.3 million clips were accessed by the Americans, 1.8 million of them being owned by the Mountain View company Google and its YouTube and Google Video platforms. Fox was placed on the second position with 680 million streams while Yahoo came only the third with 387 million clips accessed by the Internet users.

The research revealed that a single online video viewer watched approximately 158 minutes of streaming while the average time for a Steam was 2.5 minutes. 35 percent of the Americans accessing the Internet were visiting the popular YouTube platform while a single consumer viewed more than 2 clips per day.

"In total, nearly 132 million Americans viewed online streaming video in May. Google Sites also captured the largest streaming video audience with more than 64.9 million unique streamers, followed by Fox Interactive Media with 52.7 million and Yahoo! Sites with 35.0 million. Nearly 75 percent of U.S. Internet users watched an average of 158 minutes of online video per user during the month. Google Sites topped the monthly rankings with both the most unique video streamers and most videos streamed," comScore noted in the research.

YouTube was acquired by Google in October 2006, the Mountain View company paying no less than $1.65 billion. Since the acquisition was officially confirmed, YouTube grew up a lot but it also caused a lot of problems for the parent company that was continuously sent to the judge, being accused of copyright infringement. The latest firm that sued Google was Viacom, the owner of Viacom and Comedy Central that accused the search giant for publishing videos without authorization. After it demanded the removal of 100.000 clips, Viacom sued Google and required $1 billion in damages.
