Samsung announced the global recall of its latest flagship, the Galaxy Note 7, at the start of the month, and the company is currently conducting the procedure for replacing all of its 2.5 million Note 7 units sold worldwide. In the US, customers have already started receiving replacement units, while sales at some carriers have restarted.

MobileSyrup reported that Samsung Canada announced that 70% of Note 7 customers in the country have already registered to receive replacement units. Samsung sold 22,000 Note 7 devices in the country and has officially notified customers to return their smartphones and get a safe replacement.

The South Korean company has already started rolling out a free software update to safe Note 7 units so that they feature a bright green battery indicator to replace the standard white one. This would let users know that they’re actually holding a safe Galaxy Note 7 smartphone.

Samsung will roll out a software update soon

The phone maker also intends to release a software update that would trigger notifications every three hours, reminding users to exchange their phones. The update will only arrive to Galaxy Note 7 units sold between August 19 and September 1, 2016.

In addition, the update will urge users to power down their device and register for the Samsung Product Exchange Program. MobileSyrup's report also mentions that Samsung has the ability to brick phones so that users would be forced to return them, but the company doesn’t intend to enforce this measure.

Samsung released an update in South Korea that would limit Note 7 battery charge to just 60%, but Samsung Canada representatives have stated this measure won’t be enforced in the country. However, the update could arrive in Australia by the end of the week.

Samsung’s replacement program is in full swing in some countries, including South Korea where it already replaced 100,000 units. The company intends to replace 400,000 Note 7 units in South Korea before resuming sales on September 28. However, officials from the country requested additional battery tests on Note 7 units.
