Google has announced the winner of its yearly Doodle 4 Google competition which asks school children to let their imagination loose and design a Google logo. The winners of this year's round is Matteo Lopez of South San Francisco, Calif. with his doodle doodle titled "Space Life." The doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage later today.

"With more than 5 million votes cast, the anticipation has been building in this year’s Doodle 4 Google competition. Today, the wait is finally over—seven-year-old Matteo Lopez of South San Francisco, Calif. is the national winner," Marissa Mayer, VP of Product Management at Google, wrote.

"Matteo, who attends Monte Verde Elementary School, submitted his design around his dream to "... become an astronaut and explore space life." Matteo’s doodle of the Google logo artfully depicts a trip to space, walking on the moon, and even making friends with aliens," she added.

The winner got $15,000 towards his college education, which is still some time off, and his school got $25,000 for computers and technology.

The winning doodle will be shwocased for the world to see on the Google homepage for a full day. The doodle created by all national finalists of the competition, including the winning ones are available on the competition's website.

Also, all of the 40 finalists will have their works displayed in a couple of exhibitions, at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York until June 16 and at SFMOMA in San Francisco until July 19.

There were three more finalists, winners in their age groups, Joseph Eugene Miller, Grade 4, with the doodle "My galaxy," Justas Varpucanskis, Grade 7, for this "The Majestic Sea" doodle and Hannah Newsom, Grade 11 with the doodle "Illustration." Each of three runner-ups got $5,000 for their college education as well.
